There are strange local music scenes, and then there are strange local music scenes.
I don’t have much to say about Marshmallow Spike‘s set from last night at Musashi-Sakai’s Club Statto, except that my ears are still ringing. What a fun show! But what a tiny club! It had all the acoustics of a toilet bowl, but MJ and co. more than made up for it with an energetic, bilingual set.
Exactly what local rock’n'roll should be.
Oh, and there was “Naked Boy.”
NB was one of the club regulars, and he played hard for a good 10 minutes or more, not letting little things like clothing or bleeding head wounds stop him from… well, I don’t really have a club as to what he thought he was doing. There was a guitar involved, and it was funny and yet done with complete seriousness.
I met him briefly after the show, and he seemed to be a very polite, upstanding young member of Japanese society. But that might’ve just been the beer talking.
